
Embroidery is one of China’s outstanding national traditional crafts to sewing color threads (silk, velvet, thread) with embroidery needles, embroider transport needles on fabrics (silk, cloth) with design patterns, and form the drawing patterns or characters. In ancient times, it was is one of China’s outstanding national traditional crafts. There are dozens of embroidery needle methods: Qi needles, trocars, tie needles, short and long needles, tap needles, flat gold, sand stamping, etc., which are colorful and have their own characteristics. Uses of embroidery include daily clothing, song, and dance or opera costumes, tablecloths, pillowcases, cushions, and other daily necessities, as well as furnishings such as screens and wall hangings.
According to Chinese history, embroidery originated more than 3000 years ago. It started with a beautiful ancient lady in Suzhou, China who was rushing to make her own traditional marriage outfit and accidentally pierced a hole in the placket during the production process. This smart lady comes up with the solution as embroider a small flower with colored cashmere, which not only covered the hole but also looked beautiful and stylish. This happened had inspired and the effect of DuZhou culture influences more people wearing embroidery fashion, later on, SuZhou style embroidery become super famous.
According to Chinese history, during Han Dynasty, people began to apply embroidery techniques to influence beautify lifestyles. By the time of the Three Kingdoms, SuZhou style embroidery had reached a high level. It is said that Mrs. Zhao used the skills of both painting and embroidery to create a “painting embroidery” for her husband Sun Quan. As a result, Mrs. Zhao became the originator of “painting and embroidery”
With the development of technology, and the global population growth. People move on to mechanic embroidery instead of hand embroidery for large quantities. Only a few people are still doing hand embroidery, but it could be really pricey due to the artist’s skills and the embroidery time frame. However, they both have their unique qualities and market need.
